Artist Statement:
.This project, which was a hybrid of zine/paper book of eleven images, was based on a collection of insects, birds, and flowers, trees, that I encountered in my neighborhood and the County where I reside as well. It is intended to inform the viewer who holds and participates what crawls, breathes, or flys over their house or in their backyard. Instead of the zine/book opening like a book normally does, I decided to tape together the painted images and let it open accordionly. As the project began to unfold I began to notice the constant touching and folding. I knew that this project was not coming out perfect or clean, considering that I had no stable area to work on. I wasn't expecting the project to come clean or in any way perfect nevertheless. I wanted the zine/book to have a personal look to it. Lastly, The tape was important because even if there was another possibility to create something cleaner and more formal, that was not my aim. Other materials I used were colored paper, glue, ink, pen, watercolor, and gouache. I also want to mention that certain paintings were dedicated to individuals and myself. It was hard at times moving forward with ideas and the work. But I loved the end results because it became more personal to me...like a journal.
