Artist Statement:
From a young age, I have always been drawn to character design and animation. This fascination and interest in character design or creating art for animation still burns inside me. I reflect on why I continue to have this hunger after so many years and I realized that It’s my escape, voice and expression. Growing up IN East Oakland as a young Chicana , I struggled with identity , confidence and dealing with sometimes a difficult reality. Fortunately , I found that through art and character design , I could escape my reality and imagine something else.
For my Project, I escape reality to express myself with a story I call ,” CROOKED.” In this series of work I created an animatic video (storyboard slides in video format), digital painting, illustration and acrylic painting.
