Jaime Chavez was born in Los Angeles, California in 1995. At the end of the year 2020 he will be receiving his B.A. in Art Practice from the University of California at Berkeley. Although always having a knack for creativity throughout his life, Chavez is a relatively new artist who began to take his practice seriously only a few years ago. He is fascinated by light and color, which often become the focus of his work, and makes an effort to incorporate these themes whenever possible. After wrapping up his studies in the Bay Area at Berkeley, he will be taking the knowledge and experiences gathered with him back to Los Angeles in hopes of starting a professional art career in a setting he feels is essential to his work.

Artist Statement:
The Shadow Space series started as a formal investigation of the nature of shadows. I coined the term Shadow Space and defined it as: (N.) The space that exists between an object and the silhouette of it’s cast shadow. It was an attempt to visualize the unseen physical properties of shadows, but became much more as the work lived on. It morphed into an abstracted still-life portrait series about the unseen experiences of people and the residue they leave behind.
