In A Pandemic

The world as we know it has taken an unforeseen turn to a way of life we are still getting used to. Covid 19 has shook the way we exist in the world and has exacerbated issues that were already dier. These first works are made in conversation with the ongoing pandemic and the compromises that we’ve made in order to maintain a semblance of sanity. Catherine Hsu, Celine Tang, Seounguen Bak and Yoonjoo Sur have all created very different and important takes on how they have been personally affected by the virus. Emotions of escapism, loss, distance and screen fatigue are common themes in each work, relating to the very real sentiments shared worldwide. The feeling of having a lack of control is also a strong theme among these works, as a result of this limited control, these works aim to regain a grasp on their own lives or simply create worlds that allow them the freedom they desire; whether that be in a game, an island or in a bubble.
